hipstamatic

I kept hearing about the iPhone app called Hipstamatic, and FINALLY decided to get it. Now I can't stop taking pictures with it!

creative hiatus

I have been on a little bit of a creative hiatus the past few months.
Not necessarily a planned one, but more out of necessity. I don't expect to jump back into my long list of projects that I had going at the beginning of the year, but I do think I will start on another quilt.
I have been ready to get my hands working again, and I have found with quilting, I am able to quiet my mind and still be productive. There is a meditative quality to it and that is exactly what I need right now. Will update with pictures along the way, but here is an image that sparked a possible color palette and maybe pattern.

scouting

Spent an afternoon this weekend with a friend scouting out places for her wedding photos. Snagged a few shots for myself. It was stormy and the sky was doing some weird things. I like how it is almost non-existent in some of the images.

cabin in the mountains

Spent a few days with my family in a cozy cabin in the mountains.
No cell phone service, beautiful scenery, and got a new pair of moccasins.
Not a bad way to escape from life for a few days.

the flood of nashville

You can plan your days, work overtime to meet deadlines, make major life decisions and have certain expectations of how things will move forward; and then the city you live in gets flooded and all things come to a halt! This past weekend Nashville was hit with record breaking amounts of rain that caused major flooding all over the city. Thankfully, I was not personally affected by any damage to house, car, etc...but have friends who were, and the museum has been closed due to slight flooding and power outages. Weeks and weeks worth of work and projects to meet a mid-May deadline will have to be shifted, but the days off of work have allowed for a mental break that was much needed. And the reminder that we can only control so much in our lives and we have to hand the rest over is always a good thing.

I wasn't able to get out and get many pictures, but luckily my friend Paul, who is a fantastic photographer, was able to get some pretty amazing shots of downtown.

tunica crawfish festival

Work has been all-consuming these days and I will post on that soon enough, but really haven't had time to focus on much else! I did, however, make it to Tunica, MS last weekend for the Tunica Crawfish Festival. Always a good time! I didn't get too many pictures of the actual "eating of the crawfish" as it was too dark and who has time to take pictures when you are eating crawfish, right?! But it was a great weekend, and we got in plenty of time with Lily, my friend Myra's, niece. Too cute! One thing I do want to note is that I was on a swing for the first time in maybe 15 years, and it was one of the best moments I have had in a while. Like flying! Why as adults do we stop doing those things that made us feel so free when we were kids?

spring cleaning

I have been blank on finding anything to post lately. Work has been so busy and I have been dealing with some draining personal stuff so it is not surprising that I can't seem to find a cool new blog to post about! Anyway, I am sure I will get out of this little phase soon, so in the meantime I am just relaxing and enjoying the shift in the seasons. I have been spring cleaning and am happy to get rid of some of the clutter that not only takes up space in a closet but in one's life. I have no problem putting dumpy sweaters into storage and replacing them with new spring clothes. I am excited to have some dear friends moving here soon, and to be reconnecting with others I have missed. And really, I am just happy to not be too worried with my to do lists right now, and more concerned with the smaller things. Like how great it feels to have my sweet pit bull sleeping on me while I type this! Off to enjoy the night, but first, here are a few little pics I have snapped today with my new photo app!

beautiful weekend in MS

I went to Oxford, Mississippi to visit some friends this weekend. It is always good to be back in my home state. Good food, friends, beautiful weather and no plans made for a great weekend of relaxing and wandering around.

my first baby quilt

I featured the sweetest fabric I have ever seen in my life a few weeks ago, and mentioned that I would post more photos. Well, here is the final quilt! I was really excited to hear my dear friends were having a baby, and knew immediately I wanted to do this for them. This book features a really simple concept for making a great quilt, as well as, the fantastic way to make the personalized patch. But it was when I came across the fabrics that I knew I had to do it! I was very happy with how it turned out, and really had a lot of fun working on something that I hope will get lots of use!
